La Grande, Oregon

Barbara Jean “Bobbie” James, 77, of Union, died Sept. 4 at her home. A graveside burial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Union Cemetery. A celebration of life service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the tent at Buffalo Peak Golf Course.

Bobbie was born on May 13, 1930, to Horace W. and Lettie Ima (Woolf) Owen in Del Rio, Texas. On Aug. 2, 1946, she married the love of her life, J.B. “Red” James in Springdale, Ark. They moved to Eastern Oregon in 1954. They raised three children together, Roger, Cindie and Chuck.

Friends and family say Bobbie was a very active person who loved her family, her work and her town. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and helping those around her. She served on the city council for several terms and served on many committees for the City of Union. Friends and family say she brought a focused mind to make the city she loved a better place for all.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindie and her husband, Bob Stacy, of Boise; son, Chuck James of Union and Boise; daughter-in-law, Carol James Mulvany and her husband, Bruce Mulvany, of Union; seven grandchildren; Bob Stacy’s five children and their families; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Shriver of Union; brother, H.V. Owen of Lowell, Ark.; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her son, Roger, and her husband, Red.
