Fix, Charles Austin – Obituary

Charles Austin Fix was born near Lydia, Scott County, Minnesota, September 11, 1872 and he passed away at his home in Kapowsin, Washington, June 23, 1931 at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 12 days. Mr. Fix was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges and during the Spanish-American War served as sergeant of Company D, 14th United States Infantry. Filer, Peter Louis – Obituary

Services were held Saturday for Peter Louis Filer, Methow Valley pioneer who passed away at the age of 88 years [January 17, 1951] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ora B. Voight, Bremerton. Born April 9, 1862, in Dallas, Texas, Mr. Filer came to Washington in 1887, then but a territory. He stopped for a time in Ellensburg, coming on to Methow, where he took up a homestead on Beaver Creek and where he and his family lived for many years. Yocom, Joseph – Obituary

Joe Yocom, aged 22, passed away [October 6, 1910] yesterday morning in Okanogan after a six weeks’ siege of typhoid fever. The deceased is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron [Myam] Yocom of the Colockom and was a brother of Mrs. Edward Dennis. His father, mother, and sister, Mrs. Moore, of Portland, were with him when the end came and the remains were brought down the river today for interment. Robert T. Prewitt, pioneer of the Methow Valley passed away at 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 15, [1946] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Maude Allen [Twisp]. Mr. Prewitt or “Bob” as he was generally known to the people of the valley was one of the early pioneers, having first come here in 1887. Colonel R. D. Simonton, one of the best-known railroad men in the Lewiston Country, died this morning [December 30, 1915] at 2:20 o’clock at the family home, 9223 Twenty Fourth Street from hemorrhage of the brain with which he was stricken last May. Colonel Simonton had been in failing health since first stricken and for the past month his condition was critical. It was known for several days that the end was near. A private service will be Thursday in Willamette National Cemetery for Louise Serene Durland of Southeast Portland. Mrs. Durland died Sunday [November 25] in a Portland hospital of causes related to age. She was 89. She was born Jan. 26, 1901, in Ellensburg, Wash. Her maiden name was Pedersen. She had lived in the Portland area since 1934 and married Coe Irving Durland, who died in 1960. Mrs. Durland was a homemaker. Survivors include her sons, Richard of Portland and Peter of Chula Vista, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. William M. Pointer, 68, of 3552 SE 65th Avenue, died at his home Thursday following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8 PM in the Bruning & Lundberg Chapel, 1521 SW Salmon Street. Mr. Paulson had been sick about a week before his illness became so severe that he was removed to Shelton Hospital Friday night death occurring there Saturday morning [April 20, 1940]. He leaves his son, Donald, associated with him in the business, a brother, Andrew, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and several brothers and sisters in Norway. Kirkland, William Moses – Obituary

Died in Shelton, Thursday, Jan. 22 [1891] of consumption, William M. Kirkland, aged 56 years. The deceased has been sick since August and steadily failing for a month past, staying in town for the doctor’s care. He leaves several brothers and his father, a hardy old gentleman of 86 years who resides on a farm on the Skokomish River. Aaron Kirkland, an old settler living in the Upper Skokomish Valley, was found in a dying condition in the house on his ranch opposite the Mohrweis post office, Wednesday morning and expired soon afterwards [July 20, 1910]. He was a single man living alone and appeared about his premises as usual up to the day of his death when a neighbor visited his home and found him in a paralyzed condition. Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Bilyeu, 77, of 330 Isabella Street, passed away at the Lebanon Hospital Monday evening [March 17, 1952]. Daughter of Mary and William Gatts, pioneer settlers in this area, she was born at their farm near Peterson Butte on July 13, 1874.
