History of Old Seagrove School District

The author selected the old Seagrove School District as the area covered in this work. This includes all of Union, Richland, and Brower Townships in Randolph County, North Carolina. Small portions of Cedar Grove and Grant townships are also included, as the school lines lay at a point north of Ulah, east to Erect, and west to Strieby, extending south to the county lines.

The author gathered materials over eight weeks, made possible by the various communities working with their designated scribes. The author expresses gratitude to those individuals, as well as to all who took time to relive past incidents and provide photographs.

While acknowledging potential errors and omissions, the author has included memorandum pages at the back of the book for corrections and additions to continue the story of the people living in and around Seagrove.

The author extends appreciation to Ralph Bulla, who has documented most of the county’s churches and opened his files for this project. Information on the remaining churches was supplied by their historians. Charlesanna Fox generously shared her collection of news items through the Historical Room of the Asheboro and Randolph County Library. Most school records were extracted with the kind permission of the County Board of Education.

Finally, thanks are given to those who labored in producing materials for this community project, with special gratitude extended to Bill Tyler and his office for their work in preparing the material for publication.
