Atchatchakangouen Tribe
The Atchatchakangouen, a principal division of the Miami tribe, derived their name from the word for crane. Following conflicts with the Illinois, they migrated west of the Mississippi, facing further hostility from the Sioux. Eventually, they settled near the Jesuit mission in Green Bay before relocating into Illinois and Indiana alongside the rest of the Miami tribe. Notably, in 1736, Chauvignerie recognized the crane as one of their two leading totems.
