This article is to treat particularly of the John Haward/Howard branch of the family to which belonged the late Daniel S. Howard, who was one of Brockton’s foremost citizens and most successful shoe manufacturers; his brother, Gorham B. Howard, now retired, who for a number of years was one of that city’s successful merchants, engaged in the dry goods business; and the former’s sons, Warren A. Howard, now deceased, who for years was extensively engaged in the manufacture of shoes, and Daniel S. Howard, Jr., who is president of the Emerson Shoe Company, of Rockland, Massachusetts.
Baker City, Oregon Mildred E. Williams, 96, of Hermiston, a former longtime Baker City resident, died Dec. 5, 2004, at Ashley Manor in Hermiston. Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Burial of her cremains will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. SOULE (New Bedford family). The family bearing this name at New Bedford, Mass., is a branch of the Old Plymouth family, descending from George Soule, one of the “Mayflower” Pilgrims and a signer of the compact in 1620. The present head of the family is the Hon. Rufus Albertson Soule, citizen soldier, now collector of the port of New Bedford, who for many years has been a conspicuous figure in the business and political life of that place, a public servant of high and honorable service, one who as man, citizen and neighbor enjoys that popularity that comes to but few.
This scrapbook created by the Trullinger family of Clatsop County, Oregon contains clippings of various articles found in the local newspapers, letters, book articles, and other curiosities which intrigued the compiler at the time. Interspersed throughout are handwritten notes. The scrapbook commences on 22 May 1897 and ends on 24 January 1899 with a final handwritten note. The Clatsop Historical Society which has published this online does not state the creator and writer of the scrapbook, only that it was donated to them by the Trullinger family of Clatsop County, Oregon. Matthew H. Williams is an Idaho pioneer whose residence dates back to 1863, and he is a prominent citizen of Bellevue, Blaine County. He was born in Vermont, September 20, 1840. His father, John Williams, a native of New Jersey, did soldier’s duty in the war of 1812-14. He married Magdalene Shuffelt, a native of New York and a descendant of an old Dutch family of that state. Elva Lorene Chandler, 77, a longtime resident of Richland, died July 31, 2009, with her family by her side at her home in Richland. A memorial service was held Aug. 3 at the Eagle Valley Grange. Lorene was born May 26, 1932, in Richland to Robert Henry Williams and Elva (Waelty) Williams. She married John E. Chandler on June 12, 1946, in Boise, Idaho. They divorced, then 37 years later she remarried the love of her life, John E. Chandler, in Eugene on June 12, 1984.
