Biographical Sketch of Asa Platt
Asa Platt, stock dealer and farmer, was born in Middlesex County, Conn., in 1830; moved with parents to Chautauqua County, N.Y., in 1839; thence in 1848 to Erie County, Penn., and engaged in the lumber business. In 1856 he moved to Sac City, Ia., which had just been laid out and contained only two log cabins. He pre-empted land near town, one hundred acres of which he laid out in town lots, and nearly all of which he has since sold.
