Lostine, Wallowa County, Oregon Lostine Resident Passes Suddenly Funeral services conducted by Rev. Howard C. Stover of the Enterprise Community church were held in Lostine at 10 o’clock Monday morning for Roy H. Haun of Lostine, who passed away suddenly last Friday at his home. The church was filled with a large number of friends who came to pay their last respects. Masons from over the county attended in a group. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Pioneer Rancher Dies in Hospital At La Grande James F. Haun, prominent Lostine rancher, died in a La Grande hospital Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the age of 88 years. James Francis Haun was born in Platte county, Missouri, Sept.25, 1858, his father being Wilson Haun. His mother died when he was but an infant. When eight years old he came with his father to Kansas and in 1878 in company with his brother, Jacob, and brother-in-law, William McGlenire, crossed the plain’s for the Oregon country. Mrs. Ludwig Haun died on Tuesday evening of last week at the family home in O.K. Gulch very suddenly. She had been in her usual health and had prepared the evening meal as usual and was in the yard when stricken and died at 11:30. She was 46 years of age and leaves a husband and eight children, five boys and three girls. The remains were taken Friday to Walla Walla for internment, accompanied by members of her family. Pioneer Teacher Dies At Hospital Mrs. Mellie Dodd Haun, first principal of the Lostine school, passed away at the Wallowa Memorial hospital here Friday, March 20, 1953 at the age of 88. Mellie Dodd was born on a farm near Auburn, Illinois on January 14, 1865, the daughter of James E. and Annis Dodd. She started teaching school in her home community in Illinois when she was 15 years of age and taught there for a number of years before coming to Wallowa county about 1900 to become principal of the Lostine school. James Ralph Haun, a farmer and a lifelong resident of the Lostine area, passed away in a Portland hospital Thursday morning, April 12, 1956, following a short illness. Rosary was recited Sunday evening at 7:30 o’clock and requiem mass was held Monday at 10 a.m., both services at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Wallowa. Father John Baumgartner, pastor, officiated. Mrs. Robert Duncan was at the organ and Mrs. Vern Mason was soloist.
