Jefferson S. Fortney, 85, passed away on December 17 in Yucaipa, California. Born on August 29, 1893, in Warm Springs, he was the son of Levi and Julia Hayes Fortney. He married Alice Anderson in Ellensburg in 1913 and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1958. Fortney relocated to California in 1968 after his wife’s death in 1962. He is survived by a son, three daughters, 14 grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at IOOF Cemetery.
Levi J. Fortney, 66, passed away at his home on East Eleventh Street. Originally from Decatur, Iowa, he moved to Kittitas County 41 years ago and lived in Ellensburg for the last 26 years as a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, a son, two brothers, two sisters, 33 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday at the Christian Church, with burial in the IOOF Cemetery.
Nelson D. Fortney, aged 54, passed away at his home following a brief illness. He leaves behind his wife, Della Hinkle, and five daughters: Kennie, Edna, Roxy, Orphia, and Ruby. He is also survived by two brothers and five sisters. Funeral arrangements are pending, with burial planned at Green Lawn Cemetery.
