Oliver Wood Rites Being Held Today

Funeral services for Oliver Wood are being conducted by the Bollman Funeral Home today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church with the Rev. Lester Wells officiating. Mrs. Harry Stein will be organist and Ella McArtor and Sue Smyth will sing “Whispering Hope” and “Beyond The Sunset.”

Casket bearers will be E. J. Hook, Howard Williamson, Orval McArtor, Delbert Wart, S. G. Sheets and John Lewis. Interment will be in the Enterprise cemetery.

Mr. Wood had been in failing health for the past five years and had been a patient in Wallowa Memorial Hospital for six months. He passed away there on Saturday, September 21, 1963.

He was born February 23, 1881 at Sweet Home, son of John D. and Martha Wood. He had lived in Wallowa county for 63 years and was a skilled carpenter. On October 3, 1919 he was married at Enterprise to Violet Maude (Hearing) Childers, who passed away on June 15, 1951. He was a member of the Christian church and an honorary elder.

He is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Ruth Nuxall of Pendleton; Mrs. Everett (Norma) Goodale of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Uley (Georgia) McGinnis of Enterprise; and Mrs. Lulu Dimmick of Joseph; one son, Howard Childers of Joseph; three sisters, Mrs. Abbie Mayfield and Mrs. Lillie Nye, both of Portland; and Mrs. Sam (Verda) Knight of Joseph; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
