Tibbs, Eugene “Curt” – Obituary

Eugene “Curt” Tibbs, 71, a former Baker City resident, died Feb. 3, 2008, at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton, Wash., after a courageous battle with cancer.

At his request, there will be no service.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1937, to James and Lilah Tibbs at Baker City. The family lived at Sumpter at the time of his birth. He attended various schools in Baker Valley.

Curt worked in logging and as a millwright and welder in Oregon and Washington. He retired from Centralia Mining Co. in 1999 and moved to the Bremerton area to live near his daughter and grandchildren.

He was an avid outdoorsman. The happiest times of his life were spent in the great outdoors doing the things he loved: fishing, hunting and gold mining, his family said.

He was preceded in death by his father, James.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; a daughter, Sandra Peters (Don Porter) of Silverdale, Wash.; two sons, Jamie (Terry) Tibbs and Edward Tibbs of Union; five grandchildren, Stephen, Nichole and Michael Peters and Dalton and Shannon Tibbs; his mother, Lilah Tibbs of Port Angeles, Wash.; a brother, Melvin (Derrel) Tibbs of Hermiston; and a sister, Evelyn (Jack) Clapp of Port Angeles, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383 or the charity of one’s choice. To view and sign the online memorial, go to www.rill.com.
