Services Held For John McFetridge
John Oliver McFetridge, son of pioneer parents and a retired rancher and grocery man, passed away Sunday, April 21, 1974, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in frail health for several months.
He was born Dec. 12, 1890 near Enterprise, son of John C. and Martha Jane McFetridge, and had lived in Wallowa County most of his life.
On June 30, 1918 he was married to Alta Owenby at La Grande. He was a former deputy sheriff of Wallowa County, and a former manager of Safeway stores in Enterprise. He also owned a grocery store at Medical Springs and Mac’s Grocery at Joseph. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Alta, of Enterprise; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elmer (Hattie) McFetridge of Salem and Mrs. Millard (Mertie) Mcfetridge of Enterprise; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were yesterday (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at the Bollman Chapel with Rev. Joe Jewett officiating.
Jeannette Powers was organist and Clifford Collinsworth, soloist, sang “Goin Home” and “Home On The Range”.
Casket bearers were: Floyd Kennedy, Carlyle Roundy, Robert Forsythe, Lloyd J. Houser, Clifford Whitmore, Delbert Pratt and Guy Davis; and vault internment will be this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in the Enterprise Cemetery.
