Dean, Ovle – Obituary

Ovle A. Dean, Pocahontas Road, a lifetime Baker resident, died Tuesday evening in St. Elizabeth community Hospital after an extended illness. He was 77.

Mr. Dean was born Dec. 17, 1892, at Keating, the son of pioneer parents, Matthew and Estella Emele Dean. He was educated in Keating and Baker schools. He married his wife, Edna, in Pendleton. His entire life was spent ranching in Keating and Baker Valley.

Survivors include his widow, Edna; a brother Marvin B. Dean; and two nephews, Dallas M. Dean, Baker, and Byrl Dean Jr., La Grande. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bryl E.Dean Sr.

Mr. Dean was a member of the First Christian Church, the Keating and Wingville Granges and the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. today at Grays West and Co. Pioneer Chapel. The Rev. Marvin Carr of the First Christian Church officiated. Interment followed in the family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
