Anisfield, John; manufacturer; born, near Vienna, Austria, March 5, 1860; son of Israel and Amelia Geldwerth Anisfield; educated in the public and technical school in Vienna, came to this country at the age of 16; married, March 26, 1886; Daniels Guttenberg, of Vienna, Austria; issue, one daughter, Edith Karolyn, a graduate of Western Reserve University and a talented musician; second marriage, Jan. 17, 1904, to Miss Alice Strauss, daughter of Adolph Strauss of New York City; for six years mngr. and traveling salesman for the D. Black Cloak Co.; in 1882 established business under the name of John Anisfield Co., mnfgrs. of cloaks and suits; in 1909 erected the Anisfield Block at the corner of East Ninth and Huron Rd.; member Chamber of Commerce, Royal Arch Mason Webb Chapter; member Oakwood Golf and Excelsior Clubs; vice pres. Jewish Infant’s home; interested in civic betterment of the city; a Republican; owner of a fine library; fond of the best literature and a broad reader.
