Sheldon, Herbert; pres. and mgr.; born, Marple, Eng., March 17, 1869; son of John and Catherine Jinks Sheldon; educated, Marple, Eng.; married, Marple, Eng., July 17, 1893, Sarah Helena Barlow; one issue, daughter, Gladys May; arrived at Massillon, O.; from England September 1894; trained in coal mining operations, 18941899; from 1899 to date holding following official positions; 18991901, pres. The O. Young Coal Co.; 18991902, sec’y and treas. The Somerdale Coal Co.; 18991903, gen. supt. The Massillon Cleveland Coal Co., 18991906 gen. supt. The Midvale Goshen Coal Co.; 19011910, sec’y and supt. The Goshen Hill Coal Co.; 18991908, gen. mgr. The Somerdale Coal Co.; 19061910, gen. mgr. The Midvale Goshen Coal Co.; 1910, to date pres. and gen. mgr. Tuscora Sand & Coal Co.; has held every important position pertaining to mining and selling bituminous coal, Masonic affiliations, Iris Lodge, No. 299, Webb Chapter, No. 14, Cleveland Council, No. 36, Knight Templar, Oriental Commandery, No. 12; 32nd degree Scottish Rites, Lake Erie Commandery, Al Koran Temple, Mystic Shrine, veiled prophet Grotto, No. 17, Woodward Chapter, No. 138, O. E. S. I., obtained naturalization rapers as an American citizen, 1899; after five years experiments, had succeeded in producing molding sands for foundry use on a scientific and mechanical basis.
