Gwyn E. Lewis, 65, died at home in Enterprise May 27, 1999. He was born at West Jefferson, N.C. Sept. 12, 1933, to Jesse and Nele Lewis.
He moved to Oregon in 1952. Gwyn married Peggy Trump on May 13, 1953. They were married 46 years in May. Gwyn enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and family outings.
Gwyn worked in the woods logging most of his life. He retired from Wallowa County Grain Growers as a gas truck driver. He enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sports events. He was known as Papa to all the children who came through the door a total of 23 years. Peggy has had the daycare in their home. Many a day you would find him holding a child on his lap or teaching them to gold or fish out their driveway.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons Carcy Lewis and family of Joseph; daughters, Sandy Beaudoin and family of Enterprise and Linda Shirley and family of La Grande; and a total of 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Nele Lewis; two sisters and two brothers; and infant daughter.
A Celebration of Life was held May 28, 1999, at Bollman Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Williams officiating. Military committal was by the VFW Post 4307, with interment at Enterprise Cemetery.
