Raymond Hobbs Passes Dec. 3

Lifelong Baker County resident, Raymond C. Hobbs, 74, passed away Friday Dec. 3 at St. Elizabeth Hosp. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 2 pm at Gray’s West and Co. Pioneer Chapel. Rev. Robert A. Jackson officiated. Interment followed at the Haines Cemetery.

Mr. Hobbs was born April 30, 1908 in Farmington, New Mexico to Frank and Georgia Ann Hobbs. The family moved to North Powder the same year. He attended school there and was graduated from North Powder High in 1927. He was married to Julia B. Dahl of Muddy Creek Feb. 16, 1929. They spent their early married life farming in the Muddy Creek area, moving to Baker in 1942.

He went to work for the Eastern Oregon Light and Power Co., now CP National, until his retirement in 1973. He was interested in and active with the Baker Volunteer Fire Dept. for twenty two years. He was a member of the Baker Elks Lodge No. 338 BPOE.

Mr. Hobbs is survived by his wife, Julia; one son, Henry Raymond and wife Martha of Portland; grandchildren, Cherylyn M. Wilson of Gresham, Jacque D. Stuart of Portland, Dee Ann Mathre and Chuck Herman of Oregon City; two great grandchildren, Jason and Kimberly Wilson of Gresham. Surviving brothers and sisters are Alene Willis, Eldon Hobbs of North Powder, Floyd Hobbs of Irrigon, and Leora Nice of La Grande. Numerous nieces and nephews reside in the E. Oregon area.

Friends may contribute in his memory to the American Cancer Soc. Through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel.
