John Peter Goebel of Baldwin, Kansas, brother of Tony Goebel, of Enterprise, passed away in Lawrence, Kansas, March 11, 1957, and his body is being brought to Wallowa for burial. James Edward Fisher, 69, a farmer, died suddenly Monday evening at his home near Enterprise. Funeral services are being held today at 2 p.m. at the Bollman Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Boschee officiating. Burial will be in Enterprise cemetery. Fisher was born at Cove, October 13, 1889, son of Hiram and Emma Fisher. June 21, 1913 he was married at Enterprise to Vera Draper who survives him. Jane Cronin died May 13, 2007. She was 88. Mrs. Cronin was born in Melrose, Idaho, to Gertrude and Samuel Sardam, on a farm a few miles north of Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston Normal School and then attended Eastern Oregon Normal School. Mrs. Cronin began her teaching career in Lewis, a town in Wallowa County just outside of Enterprise. In true pioneer fashion, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse and rode to school each day on horseback. Frances Draper Dies At Hospital Sarah Frances Draper, for the past 64 years a resident of Wallowa County died February 16, 1957 at the Wallowa Memorial Hospital, after a very short illness. Mrs. Draper was born April 7, 1874 in Missouri. She was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Baldwin. In 1894 she was married at La Grande, Oregon to Judson W. Mrs. Lillian Spence Passes Away Suddenly Enterprise, Oregon Mrs. Lillian Spence, long-time resident of Wallowa county, Passed away at the Enterprise hospital yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 8 o’clock. Mrs. Spence, who for the past nine and a half years, had lived at the home of her son, W.H. Spence, in this city, appeared to be in her usual health until last Saturday, when she took sick and was removed to the hospital. Mrs. Geo. W. Conley Passes Rebecca S. Hooper was born near Baltimore, Maryland, May 25th, 1828, and died at Dayton, Wash., April 10th, 1920, at the age of nearly 92 years. With her husband, Geo. W. Conley, she came to Joseph in 1888 where he died in 1907. During this period of nearly twenty years they contributed largely to the development of the county and added materially to the social life of this community. Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon Austin Beidler, old resident of Wallowa, passed away at his home there, Sunday, July 8, 1934. Mr. Beidler was the son of Henry S. and Elizabeth Beidler, and was born in Van Wert County, Ohio, Feb. 9, 1854. He came to Wallowa County in 1879, and was married to Melissa Alford Nov. 24, 1887. Wallowa, Oregon Mae Roop Schriver, 95, of Milwaukie died Feb. 8, 2008. The daughter of Monroe and Ida Roop, she was born June 28, 1912, in Wallowa. A graduate of Wallowa High School and the University of Oregon School of Nursing, she married Don Schriver in 1938. A registered nurse for many years, she served in La Grande and the Portland area. Grant E. Millering of 409 Sunset Drive died Saturday, July 10th at the Alpine Meadows Golf Course at Enterprise, Oregon. He was 49 years old. Millering was born on November 4, 1922 in La Grande, the son of Eugene and Berdillie Millering. He attended schools in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1940. Mr. G.T. Fairchild received the sad news last Friday evening that his son, Lewis, had died at 6:45 that morning in a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Fairchild left Wallowa a few days before Christmas for a visit to his old home in Tenn. He stopped a few days in Colorado and got as far on his way as Memphis. No details have been received of his death but it is supposed that he was taken ill enroute and was taken to the hospital where he died.
