La Grande, Oregon Gertrude Fay (Hancock) McMahan, 95, of La Grande, died Feb. 27 at a local care home. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Center, 10300 South D St., in Island City. A private burial service will take place at a later date at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Council, Idaho. Muriel Estella Merritt, 89, of New Meadows, Idaho, died Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Baker City, surrounded by three generations of her family. Her funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the New Meadows United Methodist Church. Pastor Leathar Essinger will officiate. Interment will be at Meadow Valley Cemetery. Life’s Battle Over An Aged Veteran of the War PeacefullyPasses Away Three weeks ago today, Osiah Woods died at his home in Indian Valley, Idaho, at the advanced age of 77 years. Mr. Woods was the father of thirteen children, among them Mrs. Joseph Flick and Mrs. B.T. May of Cove, ten of whom still survive him. He was grandfather of sixty-eight and the g-grandfather of nine children.
