Conductor Killed At Kamela Chas. F. Brown, who has been a conductor on the O.R.& N. line between Pendleton and Huntington for several years, was killed at Kamela Tuesday morning. Mr. Brown was in charge of passenger train No. 6 which had stopped at Kamela to pick up a dining car. Union, Union County, Oregon Nancy Delilah Mayfield, of Union, a native of Union county and a resident here all her life died Friday after a short illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church at Union. Rev. G. A. Fortune officiating. She was born at Elgin, April 17, 1881. Her survivors are her five children, Mrs. C. R. Elgin, Oregon Estella C. Huffman, a resident of Corvallis, died at the Corvallis Care Center Thursday, September 10, 1981. She was 84. The daughter of Julius and Mary Breshears Bendshadler, she was born January 31, 1897, at Elgin, where she received her early schooling. She graduated from Northwest Christian College in Eugene in 1922. She was married to Fred M. Huffman in 1927 at Elgin. Another Herder Dead A sheep herder in Wallowa county, somewhere on the Looking Glass, made the ghastly find of another dead herder last Friday. He immediately phoned friends at Milton, who in turn informed the sheriff of Union county. Deputies were dispatched to the scene, but found the place across the line and in Wallowa county. When the Wallowa officers reached the scene the body of the dead man was found to be so badly decomposed as to make its removal next to impossible. Sudden Death Blanche Thompson Blanche, the little four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Thompson, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday after an illness of only a few hours. The little one was apparently as well as common until about 10 o’clock when it was taken suddenly with an ailment of the kidneys, and, although Dr. Whiting was called at once he was unable to stay the progress of the disease and the little one passed away at 4 o’clock that afternoon.
