Cove, Union County, Oregon William Shoemaker Committed Suicide William Shoemaker, a farmer who resides near Cove, committed suicide at his home Monday evening by hanging himself. Following is the story given by Coroner J.C. Henry to the Observer. The cause of deceased committing suicide was due to the fact that he had purchased a valuable imported stallion for which he gave his note, but the investment did not prove to be so profitable as he thought it would be and he was brought to face the fact that would be unable to make the payment when due. La Grande, Oregon Dale Lester Miller, 66, died June 13 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will begin at noon Saturday at the Union Sportsmen’s Club. A potluck lunch will be served afterward. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Dale was born Dec. 19, 1940, to Lester and Ida Miller in La Grande. He was one of three children. FRANK MITCHELL. – This gentleman is a brother of Mr. Matthew Mitchell, mentioned elsewhere. Born in Missouri in 1839, he was one of the ten children who crossed the plains with the parents and made their home in the lovely Looking Glass valley, Douglas county. Removing with his father in 1863 to The Cove, he assisted him in keeping the ferry, and later, the toll-bridge on the Ruckle road. Joseph, Wallowa County, Oregon Mrs. Vic Crow Fatally Injured in Auto Crash Mrs. Victor M. Crow was instantly killed Saturday evening when the Crow car met with a violent accident as they were on their way to the basketball tournament in Wallowa. The accident occurred about three-quarters of a mile west of Lostine. Mrs. Crow apparently died from severe head injuries. The automobile was completely demolished. Cove, Union County, Oregon Cove Boy Shot Fatal Shotgun Accident at Cove Monday Roger Golay of Cove, aged 4 years, was instantly killed by the accidental discharge of a shot gun early Monday morning. The accident occurred while Roger and his eight-year-old brother Lovo were playing with the gun. The weapon had been placed on a bed in the home while the father, George Golay had gone to the telephone. The charge from the gun entered the head of the child and death resulted instantly.
