Marshall Bartholomew [middle name is really Burr as he was named after his father] Lee was born in Bartholomew County, Indiana, on May 9, 1850, [Headstone says he was born October 14] and came to Mahaska County with his parents in 1851. He was one of eleven children and when about five years of age his father died. Green Lee Phillippe was born April 11, 1849, in Bartholomew County, Indiana, and died at his home south of town on September 4, 1912, aged 63 years, 4 months and 23 days. The deceased came to Iowa with his parents, Geo. and Agnes Phillippe during the spring of 1851, and located in Cedar Township, Mahaska county, three miles south of Fremont. Surviving are 2 brothers, James and Lyle; 4 sisters, Mrs. Harry Sims, Mrs. Ralph Heilman, Mrs. Dorcas Fishel and Mrs. Hamblen, all of Bartholomew County. Ira M. Coy, 90 years old, 402 Keeley Street died at his home at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday [September 9, 1964]. He had been an Edinburg rural mail carrier for 34 years having retired in 1939. Mr. Coy was born Sept. 24, 1873, in Bartholomew County. He married in early life Vinnie McQueen and later married Barbara Ott who survives. Mr. Coy had been active in the Edinburg Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of the Taylorsville Red Men’s Lodge. He suffered an attack of pneumonia about two weeks ago and due to his advanced age of 77 years the after effects proved fatal. Harry J. Nading, age about sixty years, native of Flat Rock, and a resident of Shelby county the greater part of his life, died Monday night [November 9, 1931] at seven o’clock at his home in St. Louis Crossing, Bartholomew county.
