Union Pioneer Has Passed On Union, July 19.- Mrs. Babette Levy, one of Union county’s pioneers passed on at her home last evening at the close of an extended illness. Adolph Levy Is Dead Passes Away at Portland Saturday Morning Mr. Adolph Levy died at The Good Samaretan hospital in Portland at 1 o’clock Saturday morning, the funeral taking place Sunday afternoon from the residence of his brother, Ludwig Levy in Portland. The funeral ceremonies were attended by many friends of the deceased, and immediately thereafter the remains were taken to Ahavi Sholem cemetery for Interment, where appropriate Masonic ceremonies were performed. La Grande, Oregon Elizabeth Annetta “Betty” Leslie, 77, of La Grande died September 16 at Grande Ronde Hospital. At her request there will be no services. Mrs. Leslie was born Dec. 18, 1928, to Carl P. and Myrtle Harmon Cloud in Elma, Wash. In 1969 she married Bruce Leslie. He died earlier. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son, Carl “Jake” Jacobsen of Gig Harbor, Wash.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Bob Cloud of Bellingham, Wash., and Hank Cloud of Oregon; and a sister, Barbara Jacobsen of Puyallup, Wash. La Grande, Oregon Staff Sgt. Jonathan Leonard, U.S. Air Force Reserve, 47, formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 22, 1996, along with nine other airmen aboard the HC-130 cargo aircraft, call sign King 56, which crashed in the Pacific Ocean 40 miles out from Cape Mendocino, Calif. Last year a black granite marble memorial to the crew was placed at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. A military honors service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Island City Cemetery. Died at Hot Lake, Oregon, Saturday, June 4, 1921, Alice Scarbrough Lemon, age 18 years, 6 months and 22 days. Alice Scarbrough was born November 21, 1903, at Vinita, Oklahoma, moving with her parents to Union in 1907. She was educated in the schools of Union, and was married to Harry Lemon, March 2, 1920. She was operator for the Telephone Co., resigning her position June 1st. She was taken suddenly ill Friday night and died Saturday morning. North Powder, Union County, Oregon Mrs. Tabitha Lee Passes This Life Mrs. Tabitha Lee, aged 76, died at her home in North Powder, Thursday morning at about six o’clock. Mrs. Lee was found in her bed in an unconscious condition at about that time, by Miss Ruth Agustus. She died without a struggle. Heart failure is given as the cause of death. Train Hits Auto Three Are Killed While watching an airplane circle above him the driver of a light truck crashed into the engine of a passenger train on the Joseph branch as the train was pulling into Imbler Sunday morning and three young men were killed outright and three others who were riding on the truck were seriously injured.
