Nov. 2, 1904 – Oct. 6, 1988 L. Irl Robinson, 83, of Salem died Thursday in Salem. He was born in Gordon, Texas. He lived in Cove from 1905 to 1919. He served in the Army from 1923 to 1924 and was middleweight boxing champion in the armed services. He married Iola Childers, June 8, 1928, in La Grande. He lived in Montana, Washington and California before coming to Salem in 1950. He moved to Union in 1976 and returned to Salem in 1978. Iola A. Robinson, 69, 1955 Dallas Hwy. NW, died Friday in a local hospital. Born in Cove, she was a graduate of Union High School in Union County and attended the University of Oregon. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Eastern Star, and was active as a church organist at First Baptist Church in Union. She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June. Survivors include her husband L. Irl; son, Don E. Salem; brother LeRoy Childers, Wallowa; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. George Robinson Passes At Baker George H. Robinson, 73 year old Mesa Ariz., farmer and former La Grande resident, died in Baker suddenly Monday. Funeral services will be at the Snodgrass Funeral Home Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Gene Robinson will officiate and interment will be in City Cemetery. Funeral Services Held This Afternoon Over The Late Wm. Roberts William Roberts, 50 years of age, who passed on August 11 at the close of an extended illness, was laid to rest this afternoon from the Bohnenkamp Chapel, the interment taking place in the Masonic cemetery. The body found its final resting place at 3:30 o’clock beside his mother who died in April. La Grande, Oregon Edith Laurel Shanks Roberts, 77, of La Grande died Sept. 19. At her request, there will be no funeral. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Roberts was born June 11, 1929, in La Grande. She worked for the Oregon State Police in La Grande for many years before transferring to the OSP in Beaverton. La Grande, Union County, Oregon Engineer Killed Charles V. Robb O.W. engineer of La Grande, was instantly killed Thursday night when his engine left the rails and turned over east of Lime. Lee Connor the fireman, was also seriously injured as was Marshal Smith a call boy, who was riding on the engine. Young Smith badly burned abut the face and arms, ran back along the track a half mile and flagged train 24 which was following the light engine which was wrecked. The deceased came to his death by drowning in the Grande Ronde river. He had driven some horses across the large ditch which empties into the river on the Bloch place. Riddle. – In the Old Town this morning at 6:30 o’clock, Mrs. J.M. Riddle, wife of J.M. Riddle, aged 22 years, cause of death being typhoid fever and a stroke of paralysis.
