Elvie I. Parks Rizor, 94, a longtime Union resident, died March 28, in Eugene, Oregon. A service will start a 1 p. m. Wednesday in Union at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry Peters will officiate. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing between 3 and 7 p. m. today at Loveland Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Rizor was born June 22, 1908, in Elgin, the daughter of Nathan R. and Ida E. Cummings Parks. She was raised and educated in Elgin.
As a young girl she worked as a telephone operator in Elgin.
She married Clarence B. Rizor on May 23, 1943, at La Grande.
She worked at H. C. Stevens Department Store in La Grande before she and her brother Ivan purchased Ivan’s Food Store in Union. She and her brother operated the store until they retired and sold the store in 1973.
Mrs. Rizor cared for her mother and father in their later years until their passing.
She had traveled extensively and often acted as tour organizer. Although her sight was failing, she remained independent, and lived by herself until two years ago. She was a founder Union Senior Meals program. She was a member of the Jewell Rebekah Lodge 96 of Summerville, and the VFW Auxiliary Lodge 4060 of Union. She enjoyed reading and crocheting and as her sight began to fail, listening to talking books.
Survivors include a son and his wife, William “Bill”and Susan Rizor of Eugene; sister-in-law Justine Parks of Union; three nephews; one niece; two grandchildren and five step-great-children.
A sister, Ellen Caudle, and a brother, Ivan Parks, died earlier.
