Ardeth Emma Moberly Riggs, 83, of Summerville, died June 12 at a local care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday June 17 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.
Mrs. Riggs was born April 15, 1923, to William Homer and Eva Marie Gault Sink in Northgate, N.D. She moved to Yakima and married Harold Moberly on Dec. 13, 1946. While in Yakima her job was packing apples.
The couple moved to Springfield in 1950 where she worked as a pre-school teacher for a time before going to work for the Lane County Educational Services District. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Yakima and Springfield.
After the death of her husband, she married Hugh Riggs on July 10, 1977, at Camp Myrtlewood in Myrtle Point. They moved to La Grande in 1995. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, camping, traveling and visiting with and teasing her family.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Pat and Dave Rainey of Summerville and Mary and Ed Rainey of Gresham; a step-daughter, Donna McMahon of Hillsboro; brothers, Kenneth Sink of Pomona, Calif., and Harold Sink of Lodi, Calif.; sisters, Edna Sharp of Yakima and Elsie Ihmels of Colorado Springs, Colo; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and other relatives. Her husband and eight brothers and sisters died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
