Alabama Revolutionary War Soldiers

This compilation seeks to honor the memory and service of Alabama’s Revolutionary War soldiers. While striving for completeness, we acknowledge that this list may be imperfect and lack certain details. Nevertheless, we believe it provides a valuable resource for those seeking to explore the personal stories of these patriots.

Our research draws upon a variety of reliable sources, including:

  • Contemporary obituaries from historical newspapers
  • The Revolutionary Pension Roll (U.S. Government Senate Document 514, 23rd Congress, 1st Session, 1833-34)
  • The 1840 Census of Pensioners (published by the U.S. Government in 1841)
  • Tombstone inscriptions
  • Verified information from published family histories
  • The official Pension Book of the State Branch Bank at Mobile

We also acknowledge the pioneering work of Mrs. P.H. Mell, former State Historian of the Alabama Division of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her 1904 paper, “Revolutionary Soldiers Buried in Alabama,” published in the Transactions of the Alabama Historical Society, provided an important foundation for this endeavor.

This compilation represents an initial step towards a comprehensive record of Alabama’s Revolutionary War veterans. We encourage readers to contribute any information that may enhance its accuracy, including corrections, dates and places of death, burial locations, details about soldiers who left Alabama, and names of those who may have been overlooked.
