A genealogy of the Lake family of Great Egg Harbour in Old Gloucester County in New Jersey : descended from John Lade of Gravesend, Long Island; with notes on the Gravesend and Staten Island branches of the family. This volume of nearly 400 pages includes a coat-of-arms in colors, two charts, and nearly fifty full page illustrations – portraits, old homes, samplers, etc. The coat-of-arms shown in the frontspiece is an unusually good example of the heraldic art!
John M. Zane, born on October 16, 1845, in Cumberland County, New Jersey, was educated in Bridgeton and later moved to Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. quartermaster department during the Civil War. After studying law in Springfield, Illinois, he practiced in Jasper County, Iowa, and opened a law office in Odebolt in 1877. Zane faced health issues that led him to Colorado for two years before returning to resume his legal career, ultimately forming a partnership that endures to this day.
