Biographical Sketch of William Samson

William Samson, originally from Londonderry, N.H., settled on what became the Benjamin Sherwood property, constructing his first cabin near the current residence. A prominent community member, he served as an early deacon of the Congregational Church. Samson passed away in 1798 at the age of sixty-six and had a large family. His lineage continues through his great-grandchildren, including L. J. Samson, Curtis H. Samson, and Mrs. R. S. Foot.

Biographical Sketch of W. C. Samson, M.D.

W.C. Samson, M.D., was born in Knox County, Ohio, and later moved to Licking County. He served in the 76th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and participated in significant campaigns before returning to Ohio to study medicine. Graduating from Cincinnati Medical College in 1875, he initially practiced in Cedar Rapids before settling in Woodbine in 1876, where he became a prominent physician. Married to Laura A. Pugsley in 1878, they had one child. Dr. Samson was also active in local governance and fraternal organizations.
