La Grande, Union County, Oregon La Grande Lady Called By Death Early In Morning Mrs. A (America) Roberts passed on early this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A Parker, 2006 O Avenue. A host of friends, with her relatives, mourn her demise today. The deceased was for eleven years a resident of La Grande. The remains are at the Bohnenkamp chapel, pending funeral arrangements. John W. Roberts, educator, superintendent of the city schools at Sedan, had attained prominence in educational circles in Southeastern Kansas, and though a native of the City of Topeka he represents one of the oldest and most noted families of Oskaloosa. Both his grandfather and father were men of distinction in the newspaper profession and his grandfather edited one of the early free state papers of Kansas. They were among the early settlers of Massachusetts and were in Lynn and Salem in that colony as early as 1628, or 1629. Edward Sinclair was born June 20, 1760, supposed at Beverly, where he died while on a visit May 19, 1827, aged sixty-seven years. He married Dec. 17, 1789, Mary Carleton, from Andover, a sister of David, Dudley, Edward and Moses Carleton. She was born Sept. 17, 1760, and died Jan. 1, 1841, aged 80 years and 4½ months. The family of Edward Sinclair, Sr. consisted of the following children: Maria, Edward, Nabby, Dudley, Ebenezer and William.
