Hazen B. Martin, a highly respected resident of Franklin and a veteran of the Civil War, was born in Bradford, Vt., March 17, 1834, son of Benjamin and Sally (Barker) Martin. Both parents, as well as the grandfather, Levi Barker, were natives of Bradford. The latter was a farmer and a cooper. Benjamin Martin died in 1863, and his wife died in 1864. This survey of Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Mississippi, was completed in 1956 by Mr. Gordon M. Wells and published by Joyce Bridges the same year. It contains the cemetery readings Mr. Wells was able to obtain at that date. It is highly likely that not all of the gravestones had survived up to that point, and it is even more likely that a large portion of interred individuals never had a gravestone.

Back in 1915, Lucian Moody Kilburn, was engaged to write a history of Adair County Iowa by the Pioneer Publishing Company of Chicago Illinois, he then being at that time a resident of the county for 50 years. The manuscript was divided into two volumes. This volume, numbered 2, provides biographical sketches of 348 leading men and women of the County of Adair including many of its founding families. Willard Martin, born in Rehoboth, Mass., March 6, 1786, married Lucretia Houghton, in 1810, and died in Hinsdale, October 14, 1849. Mr. Martin was long known as one of the leading merchants of Guilford, Vt., where he was distinguished as one of the principal citizens, and for many years received almost the universal suffrage of the town as representative in the state legislature. Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon Grace E. Martin, a resident of Prineville since 1974, died Jan. 24, 1988 at the Ochoco Nursing Home. She was 98 years old. Mrs. Martin was born June 19, 1889 at Weston, the daughter of James and Clara (Shaw) Wisdom, who were early pioneers of Wallowa County. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Wallowa County. These families are brought down to the heads of families in the First Census (1790), and include the generation born about 1790 to 1800. Descendants in the male line who removed from this region are also given, if obtainable, to about 1800, unless they have been adequately set forth in published genealogies.
Compiled military service records for 1,235 Rough Riders, including Teddy Roosevelt have been digitized. The records include individual jackets which give the name, organization, and rank of each soldier. They contain cards on which information from original records relating to the military service of the individual has been copied. Included in the main jacket are carded medical records, other documents which give personal information, and the description of the record from which the information was obtained.
