Nicholas Snow, an English settler, arrived in Plymouth in 1623 and later became a vital figure in Eastham, where he served as town clerk and held various civic roles. He married Constance, a Mayflower descendant, and fathered ten children. His lineage continued through his son Stephen and grandson Miijah, leading to notable descendants like Edmund Snow, a town founder in Orleans, and George G. Snow, a successful shoe manufacturer in Brockton. This legacy showcases the Snow family’s influence in early American history.
Reuben Hatch, born on July 7, 1763, in Preston, Connecticut, moved to Norwich with his father early in life. He attended Dartmouth College but left due to health issues, later becoming a successful farmer in Tunbridge, Chelsea, and Weathersfield. Hatch owned significant properties, including a large brick house and a tavern. He represented Tunbridge and Chelsea in the General Assembly and married Eunice Dennison, with whom he had ten children. Hatch passed away on January 5, 1818, in Norwich.
Dr. Charles R. Jennison, born in New York in 1834, was a significant figure during the Civil War as a brigadier general. His medical studies began at nineteen, leading to a medical practice in Wisconsin before he settled in Kansas in 1857. A staunch ally of John Brown, he commanded the Seventh Kansas Cavalry, known as Jennison’s Jayhawkers, focusing on clearing guerrillas from the border. Post-war, he served in local governance and the state legislature. Jennison passed away in Leavenworth in 1884.
Dr. John F. Jennison was born in Walpole in August 1813 and educated locally as well as at Cavendish Academy. He trained in medicine under Dr. Davis in Norwich, Vermont, and graduated from Norwich Academy in 1838 and Dartmouth College in 1842. He began his medical practice in Swanzey, New Hampshire, before relocating to Keene in 1852. Jennison married Elizabeth Ross and passed away on December 15, 1884, while his widow continues to live in Keene.
