Biography of W. H. Holmes

W. H. Holmes was born in 1850 in Polk County, Oregon, to pioneer parents. Biography of J. A. Rumble

J. A. Rumble, born in 1842 in Iowa, significantly contributed to the development of Wallowa County, Oregon, after moving there in 1880. A Civil War veteran, he served in the Fourth Iowa Cavalry and later transitioned to farming and stock raising before entering real estate. Thomas J. Holmes, born on March 3, 1819, in Norfolk, England, immigrated to the United States in 1830. After beginning his career in New York, he became a successful businessman in Jersey City before moving to Portland in 1850. Holmes was elected mayor in 1866 and re-elected in 1867, known for his integrity and commitment to public service. Tragically, he passed away on June 19, 1867, shortly after his election victory, leaving behind a legacy of civic involvement and respect within the community.
