Biography of Honorable Daniel Buck

Daniel Buck, born on November 9, 1753, in Hebron, Connecticut, opened Norwich’s first law office in the mid-1780s after serving in the Revolutionary War. He became a respected attorney and public servant, representing Norwich at the 1791 convention considering Vermont’s admission to the Union. Buck served in the Vermont legislature and one term in the U.S. Congress. Despite his early success, his later years were marked by financial difficulties and personal struggles, leading to his death in Chelsea on August 16, 1816.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Byam, aged 72, passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 1932, after a brief illness at her home on Mont Vernon Street. A resident of Milford for 35 years, she moved there with her late husband, Warren S. Byam. Born on July 2, 1859, in Carlisle, Mass., she was the daughter of Henry and Jane Heald. She is survived by six children and several siblings. Funeral services were held at her home, followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Biographical Sketch of John C. Heald

John C. Heald, born in 1865 in Anamosa, Iowa, was an attorney and public servant. Heald educated at Silver Ridge College and married Amanda E. Kick in 1902, with whom he had one daughter. He served as prosecuting attorney for Wheeler County and as a police judge in Greeley Center, Nebraska. Heald was a Republican candidate for Congress in 1912 and was involved in several law firms. His ancestry traces back to signer Robert Morris of the Declaration of Independence. He enjoyed motoring in his leisure time.
