One of the well known citizens of Gans, Oklahoma, is Eugene C. Gilbert, cashier of the Citizen’s Bank. He was born near Caswell, Georgia, on the 15th of December, 1889, a son of W. A. and Helen C. (Chum) Gilbert, both members of old Georgia families. The father engaged in the mercantile business for many years and also followed agricultural pursuits, enjoying well merited success. He and his wife are still living. To them four sons and one daughter were born, Eugene C., whose name initiates this review, being the eldest child. In the acquirement of an education, Eugene C.
Clyde J. Gilbert, 85, Nyssa, died January 26, 1971 at Nyssa Memorial Hospital. He was a long time resident of the Nyssa area and a retired farmer. Mr. Gilbert was born Aug. 5, 1885, in Missouri. Survivors include one nephew, Frank Wood, Emmett, and one niece, Mrs. Glen Nichols, Emmett. Services were conducted January 29 at Lienkaemper Chapel by the Rev. Oliver Todd6, (Hezekiah5, Caleb4, Samuel3, Samuel2, Christopher1) born 1764, died Sept. 10, 1847, married Betsey, daughter of Thomas and Anna (Smith) Smith, who was born 1768, died Feb. 26, 1848. Her father was in the Revolutionary war. “He conducted a fire ship to the enemy and was badly burnt, the attending boat having left him too soon, he had to swim ashore, where he was found three days after in a helpless state. GILBERT, Lucy Todd7, (Chauncey6, Jonah5, Stephen4, Samuel3, Samuel2, Christopher1) born Oct. 30, 1813, died Oct. 31, 1891, married June 8, 1835, Norris Gilbert, who was born Sept. 9, 1811, died Aug. 12, 1877. She lived on a farm near Morris, N. Y., after her marriage, until the death of her husband in 1877, and for a time after that with her son Frederick; later she went to live with her second son, Mahlon, in St. Paul. It is said that as an infant she was unusually small, and she was always slight and frail looking, but she lived far beyond
