JOHN B. FERGUSON. – This now venerable pioneer, one of the large-landholders of Lane county, was born in Richland county, Ohio, June 29, 1825. As an infant he accompanied his parents in 1842 to Hudson county, Illinois, and in 1842 went with them still further westward to Missouri, where they died in 1844 and 1845 respectively. In 1846 he was married to Miss Mary Waldrip, whose father, Wyatt Waldrip, had come from Kentucky to Illinois, and had died there in 1844, after which his family came to Missouri. This volume, “Marriages of Charlotte County, Virginia, 1784-1815,” compiles the marriage bonds and minister’s returns from Charlotte County during the specified period. The original work was painstakingly copied by Catherine Lindsay Knorr and published in 1951. The book spans 119 pages and includes a wealth of historical data on marriages that took place in this Virginia county. This publication presents several challenges for readers. Some pages are slightly tattered and torn, and the manuscript features irregular pagination. Additionally, there are tight or nonexistent margins, particularly at the bottom of the pages, and one page is typed on different paper than the rest.

The younger of two sons, only children of James B. and Martha Byrd Ferguson, William Ferguson was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, June 9, 1819. Grandparents on maternal side were John and Elizabeth Byrd. He married Margaret Ann Lee, December 16, 1836, whose early ancestors were from Virginia. She received her education from private tutors and Chawan College, Murfreesboro, N. C. Her father was William Henry Lee, her grandfather, Henry Lee. Marie A. Ferguson, 94, of Ellensburg, died Friday [June 2, 1989] at Gold Leaf Care Center. She was born in Miller, Mo., Nov. 30, 1894, a daughter of William and Myrtle Wright. She attended school in Missouri and came to Ellensburg with her family in 1909. she and German Gage were married Feb. 21, 1912. Later she and George H. Obituary of John Gilbert “Jack” Ferguson

John Gilbert “Jack” Ferguson (1916-2008) of Halfway, Oregon, passed away on June 12, 2008, at age 92. Born on March 11, 1916, in Akeley, Minnesota, to Benjamin Franklin and Minnie Belle Jenkins Ferguson, Jack moved to Renton, California, during the Great Depression. He graduated from Renton High School in 1936 and married Eleanor Owen on February 8, 1941. Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, flying 19 missions over Japan. After the war, he operated Pine Mercantile Inc. in Halfway until retirement. Jack is survived by his wife, three children, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Military honors were held on June 20, 2008, at Pine Haven Cemetery.

Nora E. Ferguson, 78, well-known pioneer resident of Kittitas Valley, died Tuesday [January 23, 1968] at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. Born Feb. 3, 1889, in Shelton, she came to the Valley as a small child with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Felix G. Wyatt. In 1912 (November 4) in Ellensburg, she was married to Ben F. He was the son of James Ferguson and Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John McEwen. They purchased their land several years before the railroad was built through this area and trains went through in October 1877. They bought railroad lands for $6 per acre.
