M.B. Davis, attorney at law, was born in Grafton County, N.H., in 1837; enlisted in the late war in 1861 in Co. I, 1st R.I.C.; served in that regiment two years, and then enlisted in Co. I, 1st N.H.C., and served from March 1863 to August 1865; enlisted as a private, and came out a commissioned officer. He was taken prisoner at Paris, Va., and exchanged at the end of four weeks, and again taken prisoner at Winchester, Va., and escaped reached the Union army at Harper’s Ferry. Henry L. Davis

Corpl, M. G. Co. No. 16. Son of C. E. Davis, of Cabarrus County. Entered service June 9, 1916, at Florence, S. C. Sent to Columbus, O.; transferred to Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; transferred to Camp Brownsville, Texas. Served on the Mexican border two years. Was on duty with the 4th Cavalry at Honolulu; later transferred to the 16th Cavalry. Mustered out at Camp Brownsville, Texas, June 28, 1918.

Jacqueline Marie “Jackie” April, 75, of Baker City, died Oct. 7, 2005, at La Grande, Oregon. By her wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral service. Coles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jackie was born on July 16, 1930, at Baker City to Edward Alvin Davis and Hattie Meyers Davis of North Powder.
