Will E. Bryant

2nd Lieutenant Will E. Bryant served in Company A, 81st Division, 322nd Regiment during World War I. Originating from Northampton County, he was the son of E.W. and Harriet C. Bryant and the husband of Maude Bryant. He entered military service on September 19, 1917, and was trained at various camps before deploying to France on August 16, 1918. Bryant participated in several key battles, including Ypres and the Meuse-Argonne. He was mustered out of service on August 15, 1919, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Wade N. Bryant

Wade N. Bryant, son of W. H. and Laura Bryant from Caldwell County, served as 1st Sergeant in Company D of the 53rd Infantry Regiment. He entered service on June 17, 1916, initially for duty in Mexico. After various assignments, including a transfer to the 53rd Infantry, he participated in significant campaigns in France during World War I. He returned to the U.S. in 1919 and re-enlisted in 1920 as a Private, continuing his military service at Camp Bragg, N.C.

M. D. Bryant

C. M. Bryant, a second-class member of Naval Aviation from Edgecombe County, was the son of B. B. and Mrs. Susan Bryant. He entered military service on December 15, 1917, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was subsequently stationed in Pensacola, Florida, before being transferred to Philadelphia. He sailed to France on April 2, 1918, where he served for eleven months. Bryant returned to the United States on March 6, 1919, and was mustered out on August 11, 1919, at Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Biographical Sketch of Mrs. Sarah Ann Bryant

Mrs. Sarah Ann Bryant, born to Samuel Jack from Ohio, moved to Coles County at 19, where her parents later passed. She wed James Parker on May 26, 1842, with whom she had ten children, two of whom survive. Tragically, eight children died, including Jonathan, a soldier killed in battle. After James’s death in 1864, she married John Bryant in 1866, who died in 1869. Sarah was a devoted Baptist, while her first husband was a Deacon in the Good Hope Baptist Church.

Edward Bryant, born February 7, 1837, in Cornish, was the son of Daniel and Cloe Bryant. His lineage includes his grandfather Israel, who settled in Cornish from Connecticut. Notably related to the famous poet William Cullen Bryant, Sylvanus’s grandfather served as a Captain in the Revolutionary War. Sylvanus married Sarah G.
