Biography of George F. Beatty

George F. Beatty, who had spent nearly all his life in Kansas, had been enrolled in the ranks of the lawyers of Salina for the past twelve years, and is now serving as referee in bankruptcy with the United States District Court. His birth occurred August 17, 1877, at 1001 Olive Street in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents were Dr. George F. and Martha Ann (Posey) Beatty. His mother, who is still living, is a daughter of William Thornton Posey, who was closely related to the family of George Washington. The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Beatty who died Saturday [December 1, 1907] of Bright’s Disease was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon from the home, 805 Fifth Avenue East. The funeral of Mr. Joseph Beatty was held from the house at 10:30 Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. Bartholomew of the Hadley Chapel Church. The residence is south of the old packing house, east of the city. The accident was an unusual one, Mr. Beatty was building a new house near where the Rock Island crosses East Fourth Street. Mattoon; was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, April 6, 1810; came to the United States in 1830, to this State, and settled in Coles Co. in 1865. He was married April 13, 1834, to Miss Anne Clegg, now deceased; she was born in Derbyshire, England, October, 1812, and died Jan. 15, 1873; Elizabeth is the only child they have had. The farm of Mr. Beatty consists of eighty acres, valued at $3,000.
