About the middle of the seventeenth century four brothers of the Lewis family left Wales, viz.: Samuel, went to Portugal; nothing more is known of him; William, married a Miss McClelland, and died in Ireland, leaving only one son, Andrew; General Robert, died in Gloucester county, Va. ; and John, died in Hanover county, Va. It is Andrews descendants who are featured in the manuscript.

Jacob, Lee Albert – Obituary

Memorial services for Lee Albert Jacob are scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at the Bollman Chapel. Jacob, a retired farmer and World War II veteran, passed away on June 29, 1970, at Wallowa County Nursing Home. He was born on December 4, 1913, in Bly, Washington, and moved to Wallowa County 55 years ago. Survivors include his daughter Berna Lee Davis, a brother, three sisters, and a granddaughter. Military honors will be provided by Post 4307 VFW of Enterprise.

Bay, Lucretia – Obituary

Mrs. Lucretia Bay, aged 96, passed away at her daughter’s home on Friday. Born on December 3, 1844, in Missouri, she married Charles Bay at 15 and traveled west by ox team, enduring personal losses along the journey. They settled in Umatilla, Oregon, where they had nine children, seven of whom survive her. Charles Bay died in 1909. Her funeral service was held at Jerue Funeral Home, with interment at Lance Hills Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters and four sons.

Bay, Wayne – Obituary

Wayne Alfred Bay, a lifelong farmer from Imnaha who recently retired to Enterprise, passed away on October 2, 1967, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. Born on August 11, 1889, he was married to Adda Ownbey since October 1, 1911. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held on October 5, 1967, at the Bollman Chapel.

Bay, Arthur Donavon – Obituary

Arthur Donavon Bay, aged 61, passed away on February 18, 1982, in Salem. Born on May 10, 1920, in Enterprise, he worked as a machine operator for Salem Concrete Pipe Co. In 1948, he married Lora Dunn Moore, and they settled in Salem in 1964. He is survived by his wife, children, stepchildren, a sister, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held on February 22 at Enterprise Cemetery, with a memorial service scheduled for February 28 in Salem. Contributions can be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

Bay, Adda Alene – Obituary

Memorial services for Adda Alene Bay will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Bollman Chapel, following her passing at Wallowa Memorial Hospital on January 29, 1969. Born on July 31, 1891, in Enterprise, Adda married Wayne Alfred Bay in 1911, who died in 1967. She spent most of her life on the Imnaha. She is survived by her daughter Bonneita Lewis, son Arthur D. Bay, brother Arthur J. Ownbey, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Enterprise cemetery.

Bechtel, Philanda Mrs. – Obituary

Mrs. Philanda Bechtel passed away on March 5, 1941, at her son Joe’s home in Wallowa. Born in Sullivan County, Missouri, in 1856, she spent much of her life in the Elgin area. Her husband predeceased her, and she is survived by three sons—Dan and Homer of Elgin, and Joe of Wallowa—as well as a daughter, Mrs. Stella Witty of Elgin. Funeral services were held in Elgin, attended by family from Enterprise.

Bay, Lulu Catherine Mrs. – Obituary

Lulu Catherine Bay passed away on March 28, 1973, at the Wallowa County Nursing Home, where she had lived since 1967. Born on April 14, 1887, in La Grande, she was the daughter of Jake Gulling and a member of St. Katherines Catholic Church. She is survived by her sister Ethel Sears and two grandsons, David and Steve Bay. The rosary service is scheduled for March 30, followed by a requiem mass and interment at Calvary Cemetery in La Grande.

Bay, Arthur Donavon – Obituary

Arthur Donavon Bay, 61, of Salem, passed away on February 18, 1982. Born on May 10, 1920, in Enterprise, he worked as a machine operator for Salem Concrete Pipe Co. He married Lora Dunn Moore in 1948, and they moved to Salem in 1964. Survived by his wife, children, stepchildren, sister, and numerous grandchildren, he was interred at Enterprise Cemetery on February 22. A memorial service is planned for February 28 in Salem. Bay, Guy – Obituary

Mrs. Iantha Duluska Bay, aged 99, passed away on November 28 after a prolonged illness. Born on December 17, 1868, in Yankton, South Dakota, she lived in the area for over 90 years and was a member of the Christian Church. Bay, John H. – Obituary

John H. Bay, aged thirty-nine, passed away at his family home in La Grande, Oregon, on August 15, 1905, after enduring a prolonged battle with cancer of the face. A lifelong resident, he is survived by his wife, mother, one brother, and four sisters. His funeral, officiated by Rev. A. Eads, is scheduled for the next day, with interment at the Masonic cemetery. Bay was also a member of the A. O. U. W., and the community extends its condolences to his grieving family.

Bay, Lawrence G. “Larry” – Obituary

Lawrence G. “Larry” Bay passed away from a heart attack in Walnut Creek, California, on February 25. Born on June 6, 1911, in La Grande, Oregon, he graduated high school there and attended the University of Oregon. Larry served in World War II and was actively involved in various community organizations. After the war, he ran his father’s Texaco business and later managed Cascade Sales before moving to California in 1961. He is survived by his wife Bernice, his mother Lulu, two sons, and a granddaughter. Services will be held in La Grande.

Bay, Roy – Obituary

Roy Bay, a 13-year-old boy from Elgin, Oregon, tragically lost his life in a logging accident on Monday evening. While assisting his father with their work, he fell from a heavily-laden wagon and was struck by a wheel, resulting in instant death. The incident, believed to involve a jolt that dislodged him, drew the sympathy of the local community. Roy’s remains were laid to rest in Summerville, and the family received condolences from many who knew them well.

Ruth Bay, aged 94, passed away on February 9, 1997, at a care facility in Hilgard, Oregon. Born on July 10, 1902, she grew up on a family farm and married Guy Bay in 1920. The couple worked as cowboys and later settled in Hilgard, where Ruth served as a mail carrier for 23 years. She is remembered for her love of animals. Ruth is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Summerville Chapel.
