James Balloch

JAMES BALLOCH was b. in 1761 in Antwerp, Stirlingshire, Scotland. He came to this country in 1790, and came to town soon after. He m. Nov. 10, 1796, Sarah Chase of Cornish. dau. of Samuel. 3d, and Elizabeth (Leet) Chase, b. Aug. 15. 1775, and d. Nov. 26, 1840. He d. Feb. 27, 1831, aged 70. A farmer and settled one of the river farm„ in Cornish, south of Windsor. One authority sacs he lived in West Claremont for a time in a house subsequently occupied by his second son. 2. GEORGE WILLIAMSON2 BALLOCH (James1) was b. Dec. 26, 1798, in Cornish; m. Sept. 19, 1825, Amanda West of Claremont, b. in St. Albans, Vt., June 23, 1798, and d. at Washington, D. C., Dec. 22, 1876. Mr. Balloch was a tall, straight man of large and portly carriage. In “military times” he led the ranks of the Light Inf. for many years. His majestic figure, once seen there, was always remembered.
