Ada (Roop) Stoor, 87, of Baker City, died Oct. 23, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Care Center.
Her funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Roger Scovil of Baker City Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be at Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway. A reception will follow at Jim and Tonie Hambelton’s home.
Visitations will be today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Coles Funeral Home.
Ada was born July 17, 1919, at Boulder Flat, in Pine Valley near Halfway, to George Paris Roop and Lou Anna (Cox) Roop. She grew up and went to school in Pine Valley. During the summer at huckleberry time she and her mother and siblings would walk five or six miles to the huckleberry patch and fill their two 2-gallon buckets apiece daily. This was one of the sources of income the family had.
Ada loved to cook and bake, and she was a very good cook. She cooked at many places including the boarding house at the Baker Mill at Cornucopia, in a boarding house at Bates, in the boarding house at the Cougar Independence Mine in the Granite area, and for the Baker Livestock Auction for many years.
She met Leo Wilhelm Stoor in Wallace, Idaho, and they were married Feb. 13, 1942, in Couer d’Alene, Idaho.
Ada and Leo had a farm for several years at Pine Creek in Pine Valley, and then a little larger farm at Bulger Flat, west of Haines, where they ran a dairy herd for several years. Ada raised great gardens and did lots of canning. She canned 14 quarts of green beans and a bunch of tomatoes just a month and a half ago.
She loved to be out with her husband when they were hunting and fishing. They were very close, and she was a great help-mate to him. During the course of her latter years, Ada and Leo watched out for and gave assistance to several older people.
Ada is survived by her sister, Sadie Davidson of Medford; a sister-in-law, Ellen Roop of Baker City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mable Farrar, who died Sept. 21, 2006, in Baker City; her husband, Leo Wilhelm Stoor; and by three other sisters and one brother.
