Stoddard, Shirley Elaine Conner Mrs. – Obituary

Shirley Stoddard, 66, died April 26, 2008, at the home of her daughter in Baker City.

There will be a celebration of her life and memorial service and potluck at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 518 N. Main St., in Union.

Shirley Elaine Conner Stoddard was born on Jan. 26, 1942, at Halfway to Lawrence and Alberta Holcomb Conner. She was raised at Halfway, Pondosa, Baker City and Elgin and was a Baker High School graduate.

She met and later eloped to marry Vernon Stoddard Sr. on July 25, 1960. They had five children.

During Shirley’s life she worked at the 10th Street Market in Baker City, Valley View Nursing home in La Grande and the Union Market in Union.

Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to crochet, garden and read.

Survivors include her children, Patricia and her husband, John Weitlauf, and Jodi and her husband, Cecil George, all of Union, Kimberly and her husband, David Baggerly, of Baker City, Vernon Stoddard Jr. of John Day and Daniel and his wife, Lisa Stoddard, of Touchet, Wash.; sisters, Nellie Turner of Union and Rosemary Howerton of North Powder; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; sisters, Alberta Bowman Walker Conner and Pat Conner; brothers, Darrel Conner, Dan Conner, Donald Holcomb and Verlin Conner; and grandson, Joseph Weitlauf.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home to help defray funeral costs, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
