Floyd Long, Barber About 40 Years
Funeral for Floyd Alonzo Long, 60, a long tome resident of Baker County will be conducted at 10 am Thursday May 18 at West and Co. Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Clarence Kopp of Cove will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery with Masonic Lodge No. 47 AF and AM conducting graveside rites.
Mr. Long was born June 4, 1906 at Haines the son of Archie and Lizzie Shock Long, a pioneer family of Baker County. He graduated from Haines High and operated a barber shop in Haines many years before moving to Baker. He operated his shop until forced to retire last fall because of ill health. He passed away Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Hosp.
He is survived by his wife Alice at teacher at Baker High; two daughters Elaine Haskell of Portland and Shirley Alford of Condon; his mother Lizzie Long of Baker; five sisters, Dora Allen, Georgia Sieg, Mabel Dinnick all of Baker, Pansy Maxwell of Haines and Beulah Bell of Redmond; two grandchildren, Laura and Jimmy Haskell of Portland and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of St. Stevens Episcopal Church, Baker Lodge No. 47 AF and AM, Mason Esther Chapter No. 11, Order of Eastern Star and the Baker Local of the Oregon Barbers Union. He was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge and a Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star. The casket will not be opened at the service. The family requested friends who wish to contribute to the charity of their choice as a memorial.
