Kuhn, Verna V. Hanby Mrs. – Obituary

Verna V. Kuhn, 87, a former Baker City resident, died Jan. 24, 2007, at her daughter’s home in Walla Walla, Wash.

Mrs. Kuhn’s funeral will be Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. in the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Burial and a graveside funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City.
Visitations will be Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.

Mrs. Kuhn was born May 5, 1919, in Baker City, the daughter of Joseph and Ethel (McMahon) Hanby. She was raised and educated in Baker City and graduated from high school there in 1937.

After school she attended St. Elizabeth’s Nursing School in Baker City, and graduated as a registered nurse in 1941. She married Virgil J. Kuhn on Sept. 30, 1942. Two children were born of that marriage, which later ended.

Mrs. Kuhn worked as a registered nurse at the Eastern Oregon State Hospital in Pendleton from 1958 until her retirement in 1980. After her retirement she lived in Pendleton until moving to Walla Walla in 2005 to be closer to her family.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pendleton from 1968 until its closing. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, family and grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing and working jig saw puzzles.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Marilyn and Don Christian of Walla Walla, and Viola and Jim Stone of Homer, Alaska; a sister, Florence Moore of Moses Lake, Wash.; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in her death by her parents; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Ellen Roberts.
