Union, Union County, Oregon
Joseph M. Chancey, son of A. Chancey of the Union Hotel, departed this life Sept. 26th, at his fathers residence in this city after a lingering and painful illness of long standing.
J.M. Chancey was born December 29th, 1847. Several years ago he was attacked with a severe cold which took violent hold on his lungs and from that time, until death came to his relief, he never knew what it was to feel well. Everything was done to alleviate his sufferings that kind and affectionate parents and loving sisters and brother could do. He had visited the Sandwich Islands and spent about one year, in hopes that a change of climate would improve his condition, but the grim monster, death, stubbornly refused to relax his hold, and on the morning of the 26th., ult., he quietly passed on to the higher life and a more perfect existence.
