Marjorie Catherine Carlson, 89, a lifelong Baker City resident, died Jan. 13, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
There will be a celebration of her life at 1 p.m. Friday at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Vault interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Aletha Bonebrake of St. Stephens Episcopal Church will officiate.
Visitations will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Gray’s West & Co.
Marjorie Catherine Emele was born on Dec. 2, 1918, at Baker City to Harry and Edith Brown Emele. She was raised at Baker City and graduated from Baker High School. After high school, Marjorie worked for Leo Adler Publishing.
In September of 1939, Marjorie quit her job and married her high school sweetheart, John E. Carlson. She became a homemaker for her husband and the couple’s one son, John H. Carlson.
Marjorie liked being in the outdoors, especially gardening and golf. For many years she and John were very active in the Baker City Golf Club. She was a very social person and spent lots of time with her friends and family.
Survivors include her son, John Carlson of Portland; sister, LaVelle Bonbright of Pendleton; brother-in-law, Duane Carlson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nieces, Jan Denman and Lynn Smurthwaite; and nephews, Rodney and Richard Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in April of 2006.
