Bruce M Barton, 73, long time resident of Roseburg, Oregon died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Edgewood Pointe Assisted Living Complex in Beaverton.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Texas with the spreading of the ashes in the Gulf of Mexico.
Bruce was born March 31, 1930, in Baker. He was the son of Fay W. and Grace Stewart Barton. He attended Baker County Schools and graduated from Pine Valley Union High in Halfway.
Bruce enlisted in the Navy becoming a Seabee, spending time on Adak Island in Alaska and Cubi Point in the Phillipines. After his time in the service he worked construction on Brownlee and Oxbow dams on the Snake River. He also worked on the Hanford Atomic Plant in Richland, Wash., before moving to Roseburg in 1965 where he was employed by Oregon Water Corporation and the City of Roseburg in water treatment. During this time he attended classes at Umpqua Community College. Bruce enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling.
On March 29, 1958, Bruce married Moya Ayling in Boise Idaho.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Moya; son Walter and wife Karen of Roseburg, son, Bruce L of Clackamas; daughter, Barbara and husband, Glenn Bright of San Angelo, Texas; sister, Claire Wiese of Portland; sister-in-law, Barbara Barton of Baker City; grandchildren, Jessica, Aaron and Bethany Barton of Roseburg and Gregory, Alexander, and Rachel Bright of San Angelo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers if you wish to honor Bruce a contribution may be made to St Vincent Hospice in Portland or the American Cancer Society.
