Cooke, Jay Stewart – Obituary

Jay S. Cooke, 70, of 232 N. Delaware, died in a local hospital Sunday evening following an extended illness. A native of Washington, he was born in Ellensburg, January 25, 1896. He came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin N. Cooke, to the Colockum area when very young. He attended the local schools and was graduated from Wenatchee High School. He served in the Armed Forces during World War I. Mr. Cooke married Hazel Lundell [Doughatry] in Wenatchee. She preceded him in death in 1923. Gerald Elroy Spencer, 97, of Los Osos, died Monday July 27, 1998, at his home. A memorial service will be held in the middle of August at Trinity Methodist Church in Los Osos. Mr. Spencer was born in his grandmother’s log house in La Grande, Ore., on Dec. 31, 1901. His mother died when he was 3 years old and his mother’s sister cared for him until his father remarried. Mrs. Leota Yocom, 62, of 1121 Cashmere Street and long-time Wenatchee resident, died in a local hospital Sunday morning [October 24, 1952] following an illness of four weeks. She was born January 12, 1892 at Van Wert, Ohio, and she resided in Ohio until 16 years of age when she came with her sister to Wenatchee in 1908. She was married to Clifford Yocom in 1910 at Wenatchee and had resided here since that time. Mrs. Brian Yocum [Byam Yocom], a former pioneer resident of the West Side, died December 7 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. and Mrs. Jesse [Edward] Dennis, in Wenatchee, according to word received. Mrs. Yocum was 90 years old November 25. She lived in the Kittitas Valley for many years before moving to Wenatchee. Burial was in Wenatchee. John S. Olin, 62, Entiat, a native of Wenatchee and a resident of the Entiat area for the past 44 years, died in a Wenatchee hospital Monday morning [January 3, 1971]. Born in Wenatchee February 16, 1908, he attended Whitman School and Wenatchee High School. He moved to the Entiat area in 1927 and was an orchardist there.
