Laura Nevada Heskett passed away at her home at Pleasant View December 25. She was born at La Grande May 26, 1868, the daughter of William and Jane Stump. She was married to Robert E. Heskett at Enterprise Dec. 31, 1888. They lived in Wallowa county until 1917 when they moved to their present home. Mrs. Heskett is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Ivan C. Jackson, of Freewater; two grandchildren; William and Charlene Jackson; a sister, Mrs. Olive Cook of Salem; and two brothers, Thomas and C. G. Stump, both of Yamhill. Alvin Wayne Stitt, 90, of Portland and formerly of La Grande died Oct. 1. A funeral service will be held Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3722 NE Going St. in Portland. Alvin was born July 1, 1917, in La Grande. He moved to Portland in 1937 and served in the US Army during World War II. He was stationed in North Africa, India and Burma. Elgin, Union County, Oregon Miss Pauline Becker died at her home here Saturday after a short illness. A resident of Elgin since 1891, Miss Becker was continually employed by the different telephone exchanges which have operated here since 1905. At the time of her death she was cashier for the west Coast Telephone Company. Miss Becker is survived by a brother, Fred C. Becker of Portland; and a sister, Mrs. M. GS. Allen, Portland. Kirby, Werle – Obituary

Werle, the young son of Dr. and Mrs. Kirby, died July 14, 1906, from cholera infantum. Everything was done to save the life of the little one but to no avail. Werle was a bright eyed golden haired little fellow 2 years, 11 months and 24 days old, and his parents deeply grieve his loss and have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services of the late Otto Hudson who died the latter part of last week, were held in the hall at Alicel last Friday, Rev. Parker of this city, conducted the services.
