Wolf Creek, Union County, Oregon Cynthia Faye Nice, 54, died Sept. 14, 2005, at St. Mary Hospital in Walla Walla, Wash., following a long illness. North Powder, Union County, Oregon Pioneer Passes John H. Powers one of the first settlers on land in the North Powder river section, died a few days ago at Stockton, California, where he has been residing for some time. Mr. Powers is survived by four sisters. Mrs. J.L. Dodson of Baker, Mrs. Mary Hutchinson of Union, Mrs. Ellen E. Mann of Baker, and Mrs. Ida E. Turner of Colfax, California. North Powder, Oregon Marlin Irvin Ediger died April 21, 2003, from heart failure. At Marlin’s request, there was no service. After cremation, a private burial was performed by his son at North Powder. He was born Jan. 16, 1931, to Martha Stannel and John D. Ediger of Dallas. He married Mildred Louise Ediger, also of Dallas, on Aug. 22, 1952. In 1960, the couple moved to North Powder, where he would spend his life between ranching and mill work. Henry O. Gorham, one of the oldest and best known citizens of this section passed this life at the Protestant hospital in Baker, Saturday evening of last week. Mr. Gorham’s death was not unexpected. North Powder, Union County, Oregon Word was received here this week of the death of Robert Campbell which occurred at Palto Alto, California, where he had been confined in an open-air sanitorium for several months. Coming as a shock to the entire community was the death of Mrs. Matts Simonis, who passed away very suddenly last Friday about noon. Mrs. Simonis had prepared dinner when she was taken suddenly ill, and died about an hour and a half later. Medical aid was sought but she passed away before the physician could reach her.
